“Transracism”? It’s hard keeping up with all the social offences one can commit these days, which is why many of us don’t bother to try. But a real doozy of a new form of ‘Thoughtcrime’ has just come to light, and out in the vanguard of the Politically Correct, the revolutionaries are turning on each other.
It is inevitable that revolutionaries eat their own children, and so many ideologies skip down the path marked ‘reducto ad absurdum’ without a hint of subconscious alarm. So it is with the bold crazy experiment of identity politics in the modern world.
Normally, a statement that “I am who I think I am” is the sort of positive affirmation we can generally approve, but there are limits. For example, the demand that we all officially recognize new pronouns to add to ‘His’ and ‘Hers’ to accommodate the ranks of the undecided is putting some people’s backs to the wall… sometimes literally in washrooms all over North America.
However, the point where the bucket of gasoline meets the embers of intolerance is coming together in that old, old issue of race and identity. Not so long ago, a Black trying to pass themselves off as a White in many parts of North America (not just in Dixie), could encounter all manner of civil, criminal and even physical penalties. That is a history we are ashamed of and those days are past.
What is new are, for example, Whites trying to self-identify as Blacks, or Blacks, self-identifying as Whites, being cast out of the ranks of the Progressive Left.
Transracism is the new offence when one displays bias and prejudice towards somebody who is assuming a new racial identity that is not the one to which they were born. If an Imperial Grand Dragon Wizard of the Golden Knights of the KKK (or whatever) displays that prejudice to a Black acting like they are White, that is old fashioned racism.
But what are we to make of the Sisters’ Campaign for Equity casting out Shanique for her bold declaration that she is now self-identifying as a Trans-gendered White? Now that she has declared herself to be White, she is now part of the Oppressor Class of Privilege – and the Patriarchy — and therefore can no longer represent the sisterhood.
North America’s First Nations are long used to various people trying to deal themselves into a tribe (and its benefits) because they claim to be 1/8th Cherokee or 1/16th Cree. American Blacks are a bit disconcerted to find the likes of Rachael Dolezal changing her name to Nkechi Amare Diallo and claiming an African heritage her parents had never heard of…
Converting to a new religion is simple enough, or aping the style and music of another culture is likewise widely accepted. Yet when identity hinges on the idea of blood and bone conveying a particular value, this is something else again. Admittedly, the Nazis thought that way but if – for example – members of La Raza or the Nation of Islam think that way, we’ve normally been prepared to pass up on criticism. However, it is amusing to watch them squirm when outsiders try to deal themselves into the clan.
Transracism? Whatever will they think of next?
